phosphor ~/use-cases

Use cases

A few ways people set up Phosphor. Mix and match: every page is its own.

a minimal focus phone

Fewer things to look at, fewer reasons to open apps.

  • Make the first page zen: just the clock.
  • Set motion in fine tune to off, or a quiet one like snow.
  • Pin only the five apps you need. They fill the dock.
  • Hide apps you do not want to see under hold, hide from the list.
  • Add the focus ready page for pomodoro and your todo list, or minimal for a big clock and what plays.

a music setup

A page that is all about what you hear.

  • The music ready page: the player big, for controls, art and the queue, with cava bars under it.
  • The radio layout for cliamp stations: lofi, synthwave, chiptunes and more.
  • Hold the player, let go, and turn on real visualizer so the spectrum follows the music.
  • Keep now playing on the dashboard for quick control.

a productivity dashboard

Your day at a glance, and the tools to get through it.

  • today: your day as a briefing, with next up, weather, inbox and todo.
  • agenda or a built page with agenda and month.
  • meeting: the next meeting and how long until it starts.
  • world clocks for the cities you work with.
  • notes and calc one swipe away.

a night setup

Easy on the eyes and the battery after dark.

  • Turn on day and night by the sun: paper by day, phosphor or ice after sunset, by itself.
  • live weather on, so real rain falls through the empty cells at night.
  • A quiet background like stars, with frame rate at 30.
  • Lock screen motion off, and the blue light filter in day and night for the evening.
  • A dark theme on an OLED phone saves the most.

your apps as icons

  • An app shelf as a 4x1 row of your four most used apps, under the clock.
  • A 1x4 column at the side of a page, or a 2x2 grid next to the weather.
  • Labels on, off or auto. Each app is a block with its first letter, lit in your theme.

habits and goals

  • habits: tap a day to mark it, and watch the weeks fill in.
  • countdown to a trip or a birthday, and progress through the day, week, month and year.
  • stopwatch with laps, and pomodoro for focus.

a hacker look

  • The matrix theme with a cmatrix panel of falling code.
  • A binary clock and the network panel, like a btop corner.
  • The pipes or fire background behind it all.
  • Just for fun: fortune with its cow, a pixel pet and dice.

a system monitor

For people who like to see what the phone is doing.

  • monitor: cpu clocks, memory, storage, battery and network in one place.
  • battery with the last 24 hours, storage as a map, and fetch.
  • Bigger monitor panels add traces and boxes, like btop.
  • network for download and upload speed and the busiest second.

a traveller

  • weather places with home and where you are going. Tap the weather to switch.
  • world clocks for both cities.
  • sky for sunrise, sunset and golden hour.
  • Or the traveller ready page: world clocks and the forecast in one tap.

a paper look

Not everyone wants glow. The light themes print like ink on paper: paper, chalk, riso and forest. Or one tap: looks, cream and forest or eink paper.

a real old monitor

For the look of a terminal from the eighties.

  • One tap: looks, green screen.
  • With pro, set crt to amber or green: the whole home glows in one colour under a gently curved glass. vhs adds a rolling tape.
  • With pro, pick the c64, c128 or vt320 theme in looks, fine tune, theme.
  • Add a fetch page for system info, and a matrix panel.

  • Add a news panel as a ticker tape at the top, with your own RSS or Atom feeds.
